Botox is still the most popular facial filler treatment, especially among Hollywood celebrities. However, a new treatment is gaining popularity quickly – Sculptra. It’s quickly becoming as popular as Botox, and may even take the top spot in the future.
Sculptra, a poly-L-lactic acid solution, has been used for many years in dissolvable surgical stitches. Upon the stitches’ dissipation, the substance would stimulate collagen production in the skin and expedite the healing process. Nowadays, it is mainly used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles. The solution activates the skin’s natural collagen production, not only smoothing out wrinkles but also preventing the formation of new ones with regular treatments.
So what are the differences between Botox and Sculptra?
Botox offers faster results than Sculptra, with effects visible immediately following one treatment. However, this does not necessarily make it the more beneficial option; it simply works faster. Sculptra requires a few weeks of treatment to take effect, but its results may last longer.
Botox can instantly reduce wrinkles, lines, and furrows in the skin by freezing the muscles it is injected into, providing a firmer appearance. However, it is not a natural solution and needs to be reapplied within a few weeks to maintain the effect. Botox does not provide any additional benefits besides a temporarily improved look.
Sculptra requires multiple treatments spread out over a period of weeks in order to be effective. The results may not be immediately visible, but the advantage of this product is that it helps to naturally slow down the aging process by stimulating collagen production, and will continue to do so in the future.
What are the similarities?
The procedures for Botox and Sculptra are very similar. During your initial consultation with Dr. Wu, you’ll be asked to provide your complete medical history, including any medical conditions and allergies.
On the day of treatment, Dr. Wu will map the injection sites on your skin and cleanse the area. A topical anesthetic may be applied to help with any discomfort. Dr. Wu will then inject your skin using multiple small injections. With either choice, You should be able to return to your normal activities immediately after treatment.
What about dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are a great way to add youthful volume to the skin. Different filler brands offer different formulations used to treat specific issues. For example, Restylane®, can lift sagging cheeks and reduce the facial signs of aging. Results can last from a few months to a few years, depending on the area treated and the type of product used.
Which treatment is best for you?
If you’re looking to achieve youthful, firm skin in a short amount of time, Botox is the way to go. However, if you’re looking for results that appear natural and can wait a bit longer, Sculptra is the best choice.
